A Devotional for Mothers from Proverbs 31

Scripture:  “Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of the household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.” Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” Proverbs 31:25-30 (ESV)

Devotional Thought:  As mothers, we are revered as the caretakers, the one who has it all together. When your kid or husband says, “Mom where this is (whatever item they are looking for)”, and mom continues what she’s doing all the while telling them where the item is. Mothers have a way of going about all their day-to-day activity, though at times it feels mundane. But nothing goes unnoticed with God. God has called us to do these duties with a joyful heart. We are to train up our children in the ways they should go and as they get older they would not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6). God notices our everyday activities as mothers and we are never given more than we can handle from God and, with God, we can accomplish all the wonderful things motherhood has in store. There is so much joy in motherhood from seeing your child for the first time, to always be the one they turn to in need (Dads are right there with Mothers as being very important for children), to being the one who always seems to keep it together. Looking back I had a very influential Mother, I admire her for everything she has done.  She has taught me to be resilient and to speak my mind when necessary, but also to have a strong faith and love wholeheartedly. Mothers sometimes don’t get the attention or appreciation all the time, but sometimes that appreciation and thanks are silent. As always, God notices all those little tasks we as mothers do from day to day and they go far from being unnoticed.

Thought/Action Point: Mothers as you go about your day-to-day activities remember it’s the little things in life. The smile from your child when you have helped him/her accomplish even the littlest task, the “Mom, this is a great supper you made” (even if it’s simple mac and cheese and hot dogs you made) or the little drawings your kids make for you. Take delight in Motherhood for it’s wonderful in all its seasons. Each of those seasons won’t last long and then it will be a new season of motherhood.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I ask that you bless all the moms out there. Help them to find joy in all their day-to-day activities and to relish in each season of motherhood as they don’t last long. Give them the wisdom and strength to train up their children in ways that you see fit. Help mothers to remember that our duties that we do never go unnoticed. Also to remember that with you we can do all things. In your precious name we pray, Amen.
