New Year, New Business Money Makeover?

“The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is a slave to the lender.” Proverbs 22:7

When we hear the word budget, most of us cringe and a dozen fearful thoughts run through our minds. It feels like you try to sit down and look in the crystal ball to see the future…which is impossible. Or you put your numbers on paper with prayers that all will go as planned. To our amazement having a budget actually helps us avoid disasters and be prepared.

I have a great quote on the top of my budgeting book that says “financial freedom means that when your life crumbles around you, the one thing you don’t have to worry about is money.” Sounds so easy and with proper planning it can happen.

Years ago I found Dave Ramsey’s Total Money Makeover for my personal finances and have been a fan ever since. It is a simple, easy-to-follow format that is an eye-opener and has you reflect on where your money goes and redefines your wants and needs. It is a breath of fresh air once you work through it and put the steps in place and a reality check on how you may have been running in circles for years.

The book’s intent is for personal finances but is a great working tool for your business as the principles are the same. I would encourage you to pick up his book and use it to evaluate your business and help define a business budget…one that you can follow!

This book walks you through the following and more:

  • Savings
  • Relating with Money
  • Cash Flow Planning
  • Dumping Debt
  • Buyer Decisions
  • Insurance
  • Forms and more

And from the great Total Money Makeover author, Dave Ramsey himself, “If you live like no one else, later you can live like no one else.”

Think that over…walk through the book…and change your life.
